About the Client
Shopify is a global e-commerce platform empowering millions of merchants worldwide. As part of the Shop app ecosystem, Shopify introduced Shop Minis to enable lightweight, engaging, and commerce-focused experiences directly inside the Shop app. The goal was to explore new interaction models that improve product discovery and conversion
The Challenge
Traditional product discovery relies heavily on search and filters, which often fail when users are inspired by visuals rather than keywords.
Shop app users frequently discover inspiration through photos—outfits, interiors, makeup looks, or pet styles—but lacked tools to convert that inspiration into shoppable results instantly.
Dress My Pet
An AI-powered mini that lets pet owners instantly try-on outfits on their pets and discover real products from the Shop catalog, all from a single photo
Makeup Master
A private AI makeup studio that lets users try realistic makeup looks on their own selfie and discover matching beauty products — with results visible only to them
Steal The Look
Upload any outfit photo and instantly shop matching clothing, shoes, and accessories from the Shop catalog — all curated to fit the same vibe
Get That Room
Snap a photo of any interior you love and instantly discover furniture and decor from Shop that match the same style and mood
-
Keyword-based search does not match visual intent
-
High friction between inspiration and purchase
-
Limited personalization in traditional browsing
-
Need for fast, mobile-first experiences inside Shop
The Solution
We designed and built a suite of four AI-powered Shop Minis, each focused on a different vertical but
sharing the same core principle: photo → AI understanding → structured product discovery → instant
shopping.
Each mini was optimized for speed, privacy, and native Shop app UX.
Steal The Look – Outfit recognition and fashion matching
Makeup Master – Private AI makeup try-on with product discovery
Dress My Pet – AI pet outfit try-on with community inspiration
Get That Room – Interior photo analysis with furniture matching
